What is a Live Edge Slab?
You may have heard the phrase Live Edge Slab during some casual scrolling on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, or even office gossip. There’s a lot of hype around this mysterious chunks of wood, but what the heck are they?
Live Edge Slabs are basically gigantic pieces of lumber that haven’t been cut flat on all four sides. What makes these pieces so unique for custom furniture projects like dining tables, headboards, and entryway tables is their natural, organic look. Not to mention that in many cases a single slab can be all you need to make a live edge slab dining table.
They’re just big chunks of wood!
The way a sawmill would produce a live edge slab can be seen in this image. Basically what is happening is the entire log is being cut into thick slices from top to bottom. By taking a round log and cutting it from top to bottom without turning it you leave the bark and the curved edge of the log on the sides of the board.
Here you can see a live edge slab we’re currently working on that has a TON of curves throughout it. Follow us on Instagram if you want to see this table come to life!
Where to find them?
So now that you know what a Live Edge Slab is, you may ask yourself where would I find one so I can have a piece of furniture made from it. Well today is your lucky day, because we work with live edge slabs quite often and build wide varieties of furniture and other items out of them.
