The Knotty Log’s Owner, Brad discovered his passion for woodworking and building furniture completely by accident. A love for cooking led to quite a large collection of spices. Those spices started piling up and instead of buying a spice rack, he used his dad’s tools to design and build a simple spice rack. It wasn’t pretty, in fact, it was pretty ugly! However, the process of building the spice rack was the spark that turned into a burning passion for his craft.
Behind the Craftsmanship
Brad grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, where he spent his childhood doing weekend projects and traveling to job sites during the summer with his dad who was a carpenter for 40 years. You would think that Brad would want to follow in his father’s footsteps, but instead he enlisted in the United States Air Force.
Brad served for 8 years as an Intelligence Analyst while stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA. During his time on active duty Brad began woodworking as a hobby the quickly began getting requests to build pieces for friends and family. For 3 years Brad would put on his uniform in the morning for work, then get home and change into a flannel and work boots to build furniture for his rapidly growing furniture clientele through the night. At the end of his enlistment, Brad knew that it was time to follow his passion and build furniture full time and here you have The Knotty Log!
